Rebranding breaks the commitment we have made to our current userbase and although it wasn’t the easiest route to take we believe the brand’s transformation will shine through in the end.” The founding principles of MacKeeper remain the same – worry-free, secure, and private online experiences, available for all. We have tackled the issues we had in the past and it has been recognised by both our users and third parties like Apple and AppEsteem. “We have transformed MacKeeper into a consumer-first company and we want to take the honest approach with everyone and address legacy perceptions of the brand head-on. So I put that question to Clario’s CEO, Alun Baker, and this is his answer: The most obvious question is why, under its new ownership, anyone would want to continue selling a product, however good it might be, under a name which to many of us is synonymous with PUP. What I try to do here is assess whether someone looking for this type of product should look at MacKeeper to see whether it meets their needs. I therefore try to stand back and won’t enter into arguments as to why no housekeeping product should ever be used. However, it appears that despite my advice, many users like these products, and find them useful. Every so often an editor persuades me to review a product in that category, and I find myself deeply conflicted. For over thirty years, as any reader of MacUser in its day or MacFormat now will be aware, I have disliked products which attempt to perform ‘housekeeping’ and clean up. This is not a review of MacKeeper as a product. Following discussions with the good folk at Clario who now own and develop this product, and in the spirit of fairness and objectivity, this article looks at the current version of MacKeeper, at what it does, and how it has changed.

Cleaning up RAM use and telling me it got rid of so many gigabytes of garbage is more gimmick than utility but overall I find I ue this program a lot, it does not seem to have ever slowed my computers and I have been treated politely and in detail on issues I have had them deal with. The delete and shredder and anti-theft etc are all useful. If it is a scam then I have been fooled into two years useful cleaning up of my computer which is made easier by an easy to use program.

I do notice that many professional reviews are very positive and many others call it a scam.

I prefer to pay upfront and have lifetime free upgrades but its not my business.

I am less than happy with any program that throws a costly upgrade every year or so and then tells you an older version will not be supported.
I run the program on a desktop and a laptop. I have always had an intelligent chat agent when needed and even as a moderately knowledgeable user I can see on remote access hat why are far more knowledgeable than average.
But I always noticed MK does not back away from negative comments, they answer all of them politely.

I have not encountered any problems with Mackeeper and even did a full delete once from fear mongering forums. Maybe I am biased as I am a Mackeeper user.
